  Shopfitting history since 1868

 

For 155 years, umdasch has been characterised by a tradition of innovation - implemented by people who are among the best in shopfitting. This is how a small carpentry workshop in Amstetten, Austria, became an internationally active shopfitter for inspiring retail solutions:

Foundation

Stefan Hopferwieser, the great-grandfather of the current owners, is granted a licence to run a carpentry business.

The name Umdasch

Mathilde Hopferwieser, granddaughter of the company founder, marries Josef Umdasch. He joins the management of the company in 1939. The company is relocated to the east of the town of Amstetten and a new factory is built.

Umdasch and its divisions

In 1956, the company specialises in shopfitting (umdasch The Store Makers) and formwork technology (Doka).

Acquisition of the Bremshey company

The shopfitting division of Bremshey is acquired. This makes the Store Makers one of the leading shopfitters in Germany.

Today's Umdasch Group

The current corporate structure of the Umdasch Group is established. The Doka Group and the Umdasch Shop Concept Group operate as independent divisions under the umbrella of Umdasch AG.

The takeover of Assmann Ladenbau

Umdasch AG acquires Assmann Ladenbau Leibnitz, the Austrian shopfitting market leader for the food retail sector. With the core brands Umdasch Shop-Concept and Assmann Ladenbau, the company now covers all retail sectors.

Umdasch Shopfitting

Umdasch Shop-Concept becomes Umdasch Shopfitting and subsequently the core brands Umdasch Shopfitting and Assmann Ladenbau become the joint brand Umdasch Shopfitting.

umdasch acquires MMiT

Umdasch Shopfitting acquires the technology company MMiT from Linz, thereby expanding the competences of the Digital Retail Business Unit.

The new company member Story Design

Umdasch Shopfitting acquires the Czech shopfitting company Story Design. This acquisition strengthens Umdasch Shopfitting's presence in Eastern Europe and its capabilities in various retail sectors.

umdasch Seen Media

umdasch acquires the digital signage expert Seen Media and strengthens its expertise in the area of content & creation. This makes umdasch one of the top 3 digital signage integrators in the DACH region.

umdasch Madosan

umdasch acquires a majority stake in the Turkish company Madosan. The specialist for sheet metal shutter construction and heavy-duty shelving is one of the most successful representatives of its sector and thus complements the Store Makers portfolio.

Umdasch Group with a standardised look

umdasch The Store Makers presents itself together with the divisions of the Umdasch Group in a uniform look following a rebranding. The new icon in the logo symbolises cohesion and unity - a group-wide step into the future.

Expansion of the site in Litomyšl, Czech Republic

After a construction phase of around one and a half years, the expanded production and office space at the Czech site in Litomyšl was opened - an important step towards strengthening the company's own production and versatile service portfolio in Europe.
